Audi has been working on a super-hybrid SUV with a petrol-electric drivetrain producing around 476hp. This car was first previewed as the Q8 Sport Concept and is nearing production now. The upcoming SUV from Audi will be badged as the SQ8.
The hybrid SUV will sit atop the Q8 range, due to launch next year, as the new flagship SUV model. When Audi had showcased the concept, it gave us an idea to what will be under the hood of the all-wheel-drive performance model. It uses a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol engine that produces 450hp, with electric assistance from a 20kWh motor, increasing the total output to 476hp and 700Nm of torque. The claimed 0-100kph time for the concept was 4.7sec and powering on to a top speed of 275kph.
The upcoming SQ8 will have an aggressive, low stance largely due to the way the suspension is set-up. The upcoming car will also come with a sporty bumper design and redesigned alloy wheels. The standard equipment list is likely to include carbon ceramic disc brakes to stop the massive SUV and Audi’s Virtual Cockpit.
As of now, Audi has no plans to introduce the SQ8 in India. On the other hand, the SQ7 was recently spotted testing in the country however, when we asked Audi about it, they said launch plans were on hold.
