Audi has launched the second-generation RS5 Sports Coupè in India at Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom). The RS5 debuts the two-door coupè body style of the latest-gen A5 in India. Currently, the A5 line-up in India consists of sportback and convertible models.
Powering the new RS5 is a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol motor that is a big departure from 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 that powered the last-gen RS5. Even though it may be smaller in displacement, the engine new churns out a solid maximum power of 450hp and a humongous 600Nm of peak torque. Interestingly, the figures indicate that the new RS5 matches the old car on power, but produces a significant 170Nm more torque. As for performance, Audi claims the new RS5 can do the 0-100kph dash in just 3.9sec – half a second faster than the previous RS5. As expected, power is channelled to all four wheels via Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system mated to an eight-speed gearbox.
The sports coupé also boasts a limited top speed of 250kph in standard form. You can also upgrade to a top-speed of 280kph which is a paid opition. The new RS5 features Audi Sport’s aggressive styling cues. 19-inch wheels are standard, while 20-inchers are optional. On the inside, there is enough RS-spec elements to ma1ke you feel that you're in a performance car. Sport seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, Alcantara leather upholstery, sport pedals and Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument system with RS highlights – these are a few elements that distinguish the RS5 from the standard A5 models.
At Rs 1.1 crore, the RS5's pricing is considerably cheaper than its direct rival, the BMW M4 that costs Rs 1.33 crore (ex-showroom).
