Auto Expo 2020: Day 2 Highlights

The new Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Vitara Brezza facelift were among the big reveals on day 2.

The second day at Auto Expo 2020 featured new car launches, next-generation product unveils, and future concept showcases. Read on to see the highlight cars from Day 2 of Auto Expo 2020.  

New Hyundai Creta

In what was possibly the biggest event of day 2, Hyundai unveiled the new-generation Creta SUV, ahead of its market launch next month. The new version of the midsize SUV is longer than the outgoing model and features a striking exterior design. While Hyundai didn’t reveal the engines, the new Creta is expected to share its powertrain options with the Kia Seltos.

Volkswagen I.D. Crozz

VW showcased the I.D. Crozz electric SUV concept at their Auto Expo stand. The model’s production-spec version is touted to break cover in April, with an India launch likely to take place in 2021. The I.D. Crozz’s dual-motor setup puts out a combined 306hp and 450Nm of torque. VW claims that the EV can do over 500km on a single charge.

Mercedes-Benz V-class Marco Polo

 

Mercedes expanded its V-class line-up in India by launching the Marco Polo version in two variants. The Marco Polo is essentially the camper-van iteration of the V-class that gets features like a sofa-cum-bed, a 40-litre fridge and a fully equipped kitchenette. The base Marco Polo Horizon is priced at Rs 1.38 crore while the top-spec Marco Polo costs Rs 1.46 crore (ex-showroom, pan-India). 

 

Great Wall Motors R1 EV

 

Besides the plethora of SUVs on display, Great Wall Motor also showcased the compact R1 EV at their stand. Powered by a 33kW electric motor, the R1 EV has a claimed range of over 300km (NEDC cycle). The R1 would make an ideal city runabout, owing to its small dimensions and decent range. However, the Chinese carmaker hasn’t disclosed any plans of the R1’s India launch. 

 

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza facelift

 

Maruti revamped its Vitara Brezza compact SUV by giving it refreshed styling and more equipment. However, the major talking point was the introduction of a BS6-compliant 105hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that replaces the outgoing 90hp, 1.3-litre turbo-diesel unit. The Vitara Brezza petrol will come with 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options, when it’s launched in the coming weeks.  

 

Renault Duster 1.3 turbo-petrol

 

As a replacement for its long-standing 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine, Renault has introduced an all-new BS6-compliant 156hp, 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine to the Duster. The model is due for launch in April and will be available with two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The Duster’s existing 1.5-litre petrol engine will also be upgraded to meet the upcoming emission norms and will be sold alongside the new 1.3-litre unit.

Haima E1 EV

 

Alongside the 7X and 8S SUVs, Haima also showcased the E1 electric vehicle at their Auto Expo stand. Designed to be an affordable, long-range EV, the E1 packs a 34kWh lithium-ion battery that gives it a range of 302km on a full charge (NEDC cycle), which increases to 352km if driven at a constant speed of 60kph. In partnership with Bird Electric, Haima will launch the E1 EV in India by early-2022.    

 

MG Hector Plus 

 

MG Motor India unveiled the much-anticipated Hector Plus, the three-row version of the popular SUV. The Plus is 40mm longer than the Hector and features a tweaked exterior design to help differentiate it from the standard model. Engines and gearboxes options are expected to be shared with the 5-seat Hector. The Hector Plus will be launched in the second-half of 2020 and will take on the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Tata Gravitas.
