As the new financial year has begun, dealership-level discounts for older stock, especially the 2018 model year cars, have increased significantly. Tata dealerships across India are now offering discounts up to Rs 25,000 on the MY2018 Tata Tiago, and up to Rs 20,000 on all its other cars and SUVs made in 2019, barring the Tata Harrier.

Tata Bolt

Save up to Rs 80,000
A solid and competent hatchback, theTata Bolt has a roomy cabin and great ride quality, but it doesn’t sell nearly as well as similarly priced and more modern rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ford Figo. The Bolt is powered by a 90hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 75hp, 1.3-litre diesel motor, both of which come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Excluding the discount on 2018 models, dealers are offering Rs 40,000 off and an exchange bonus up to Rs 20,000.

Tata Zest

Save up to Rs 80,000
Known to be one of the first made-in-India cars to achieve a four-star Global NCAP crash-test rating, the Tata Zest compact sedan is comfortable on the inside and offers very good value for money. Neither the 90hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, nor the 1.3-litre diesel (which comes in 75hp and 90hp states of tune) are exciting but are decent for urban environs. The Zest can now be had with benefits worth Rs 80,000, including the discount on 2018 models, a consumer discount on 2019 model year cars and an exchange bonus worth Rs 20,000.

Tata Tigor

Save up to Rs 70,000
The Tiago-based compact sedan stands out for its design, value for money quotient and comfortable cabin. The 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine is smooth and works decently well with the 5-speed AMT, but it's the 5-speed manual that we'd go for. The 70hp, 1.0-litre diesel engine feels underpowered compared to its rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire. Besides the benefits on 2018 models of the Tata Tigor, dealers have been authorised to offer discounts and bonuses of up to Rs 50,000.

Tata Hexa

Save up to Rs 70,000
A seven-seat crossover, the mid- and top-spec variants (XM and XT) of the Tata Hexa were given a minor update recently. While the base Hexa XE is powered by a 150hp/320m 2.2-litre engine, all other variants get a 156hp/400Nm version of the same motor. The XE gets a 5-speed manual, while the Hexa XM and Hexa XT gets the option of a 6-speed automatic or manual gearbox, and four-wheel-drive as well. Potential customers can avail up to Rs 50,000 in exchange bonuses, free insurance and cash discounts on all trims of the Hexa all through April.

Tata Safari Storme

Save up to Rs 65,000
Dealerships are offering sizable discounts and benefits on the Tata Safari Storme as the SUV will be discontinued later this year. Benefits to the tune of Rs 65,000 are available on 2018 models, while discounts up to Rs 45,000 can be had on 2019 Safari Stormes. Mechanically, the Safari Storme is identical to the Hexa, but it misses out on the optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Tata Nexon

Save up to Rs 55,000
Competition is definitely hotting up in the compact SUV segment – the Mahindra XUV300 recently arrived to take on the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport, and the Hyundai Venue will launch in the same segment next month. Tata dealers are offering benefits up to Rs 35,000 on the 2019 Nexon, hoping to attract customers to buy its stylish, safe (the first made-in-India model to get a five-star Global NCAP rating), comfortable and value-for-money SUV.

Tata Tiago

Save up to Rs 45,000
Tata dealers seem to have quite a few leftover stocks of the Tiago hatchback as they are offering up to Rs 25,000 off on older models, and up to Rs 20,000 off on the top-spec Tata Tiago XZ+. You also get free first-year insurance when you buy the Hyundai Santro and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R rival. Available in petrol-manual, petrol-AMT and diesel-manual variants, the Tata Tiago and Tigor share their engine and gearbox options.

Tata Sumo Gold

Save up to Rs 40,000
Tata’s stalwart people mover, the Sumo Gold, has been on sale since 1994, and will be one of the models that will not be upgraded to meet upcoming safety norms. Although seriously outdated, the Tata Sumo has been popular for its ability to carrying up to nine people and its torquey 85hp, 3.0-litre diesel motor. Bargain well and you could get over Rs 20,000 off on 2019 models of the utility vehicle, and over Rs 40,000 off on 2018 models

Tata Nano

Save up to Rs 40,000
The most affordable car on sale in India is one of the models that Tata has discontinued this year. Surprisingly spacious on the inside, the Tata Nano is available with a 38hp, 624cc, two-cylinder petrol engine and 4-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options. There’s also a CNG-equipped version of the budget hatchback too. Tata dealers are now offering Rs 20,000 worth of discounts and benefits on 2019 model year cars, but haggle well and you could get far more than the Rs 40,000 offered on older stock.
