It was late last year when BMW first introduced the limited-run Black Shadow Edition on the 2 Series Gran Coupe in India. However, it was only made available on the diesel version in 220d M Sport guise. Now, BMW has launched the 220i Black Shadow Edition at Rs 43.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India), bringing the Black Shadow treatment to the 2 Series Gran Coupe's petrol version. Like the diesel, the petrol 220i Black Shadow Edition is also limited to just 24 units and will be available solely via BMW’s online retail platform.

BMW 220i Black Shadow Edition: what’s new?
The 220i Black Shadow Editions have been specced with the company’s BMW Individual high-gloss shadow line package, along with parts from its M Performance catalogue. This is identical to what was offered with the diesel versions. BMW says the Black Shadow Edition kit costs Rs 3.25 lakh, although buyers of the 24 units can avail it at a premium of just Rs 1.6 lakh over the regular 220i M Sport version that costs Rs 41.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Post the sale of these 24 units, the kit will become available at the full price as an option on the standard 220i M Sport.
The Black Shadow Edition kit adds a new blacked-out mesh-pattern BMW kidney grille, black wing mirror caps, darkened chrome finish for the exhaust pipe finishers, and a gloss-black boot lip spoiler. It also rides on new 18-inch forged alloy wheels with floating hubcaps from BMW’s M Performance parts.
Akin to the diesel versions, the 220i Black Shadow Edition is available in two exterior paint shades options – Alpine White and Black Sapphire. The interior, however, is mostly unchanged from the standard model, being offered in the same dual-tone Sensatec Oyster and Black leather upholstery.
The equipment list is also identical to the standard 2 Series M Sport, which means it gets features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, 10.25-inch touchscreen with voice assistant and gesture control, rear view camera, reversing assistant, panoramic sunroof, sports seats with memory function, and more. Safety kit on offer includes six airbags, ABS, dynamic stability control, traction control, cornering brake control and more.
BMW 220i Black Shadow Edition: powertrain details
The engine under the hood of the 220i Black Shadow Edition remains unchanged from the standard 220i M Sport model. That means it continues to be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 190hp and 280Nm of torque, and it comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. There are three drive modes on offer – Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport – and BMW claims it can sprint from 0-100kph in 7.1sec.
