BMW has launched the M4 CS in India at a base price of Rs 1.89 crore (ex-showroom). The M4 CS (Competition Sport) sits above the M4 Competition and features several mechanical changes over the latter to make it quicker and faster. The M4 CS is the first BMW CS model to be launched in India.

  1. M4 CS gets several mechanical upgrades over M4 Competition
  2. Costlier by Rs 36 lakh than M4 Competition
  3. To rival upcoming Mercedes C 63 S e-Performance

BMW M4 CS: powertrain, performance

The BMW M4 CS makes use of the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine as the standard M4. However, the engine is tuned to produce 550hp (20hp more than M4 Competition), thanks to an increase in turbo boost pressure from 1.7 bar to 2.1 bar. The peak torque remains unchanged at 650Nm, however, it's produced from 2,750rpm to 5,950rpm - 220rpm higher than the M4 Competition.

BMW says it has made some changes to the powertrain to endure longer track sessions, including an improved cooling system and an increased oil supply to the clutch, to ensure that the four-wheel-drive system maintains its performance. There is an increase in the powertrain’s responsiveness,  thanks to stiffer engine mounts.

The CS is also 20kg lighter, thanks to a titanium exhaust silencer and various carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) components, including the centre console, gearbox paddles, and various interior trim pieces. The CS is also equipped with lighter wheels, with 19-inch alloys up front and 20-inchers at the rear. Owing to the changes, the BMW M4 CS can sprint from 0-100kph in 3.4 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds quicker than the M4 Competition. The top speed is electronically limited to 302kph. It also gets BMW's Adaptive M suspension as standard.

BMW M4 CS: exterior, interior design

As compared to the M4 Competition, the M4 CS gets yellow-tinted daytime-running lights. The kidney grille features a red outline, as well as bronze wheels. The head-up display gets M-specific graphics, while there’s also a dedicated M Mode button on the centre console. Moreover, there’s an M-specific Setup button on the centre console, that enables direct access to the settings options for the engine, chassis, steering, braking system, and all-wheel drive.

It gets a flat-bottom Alcantara M steering wheel, which is an optional extra on the M4 Competition, while also carrying over the latest iteration of BMW's curved display, which comprises a 14.9-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, running the latest BMW Operating System 8.5. BMW has also equipped the M4 CS with M Carbon bucket seats. Other highlights include red 'CS' lettering on the centre console, M seat belts, M4 CS door sills, and more.

The BMW M4 CS rivals the Audi RS5, although the latter is a four-door, as well as the upcoming India-bound C 63 S e-Performance.
