BMW’s flagship coupe, the 8-series, is due to get a range topping M8 version that is not slated to be unveiled for a few months. The M8 was supposed to be revealed in mid-2019 and go on sale later in the year in international markets.
However, images have surfaced online showing the new performance model completely undisguised. The car in question sports an M8 nameplate, however, it benefits from more aggressive front and rear bumpers, performance wheels, as well as a quad exhaust setup that are similar to what we have seen on the M2 and M5 Competition. Due to these visual cues it is speculated that the car in the picture is the M8 Competition.
The M8 is going to use the M850i’s, 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 petrol engine, though it will be uprated to make more than 600hp of power. It is safe to assume that the M8 competition will produce even more power than the M5 Competition, which makes 25hp more than the standard M5 at 625hp. The M8 will be available in all three bodystyles - the Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe (four-door).
The 8-series Gran Coupe will debut in 2019 and has been caught testing on multiple occasions at the Nürburgring, alongside the M8 Coupe and Convertible. With the M8, BMW aims to take on the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe.
BMW has made no announcement regarding an India launch for the 8-series, as of now. If it does come to India down the line, it will sit above the current flagship sedan, the 7-series.
