BMW India is all set to launch the X5 facelift on July 14, which will be available in two variants, the X5 40i and the X5 30d. This comes a few months after the model was unveiled globally. Our dealer source has confirmed that bookings are open unofficially for a token amount of Rs 50,000.
- Features a new 14.9-inch touchscreen
- Both engines get mild electrification
- Illuminated kidney grille available only on the X5 40i
BMW X5 interior and exterior updates
Compared to the older generation model, the new X5 gets an all-new bumper where the air intakes are far simpler in design and are vertically oriented. The headlamps are a lot slimmer as well, and get redesigned LED Daytime Running Lamp signatures. The central air intake, meanwhile, has become wider and broader. Not much has changed at the rear, although the tail lamps get a new LED treatment. An illuminated kidney grille that is similar to the one in the i7 will be available only on the X5 40i model, and both models will be riding on 21-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, the biggest change is in the infotainment unit, which is BMW's latest twin curved screen display seen on other newer BMWs. This has brought about a complete redesign of the dashboard with far fewer physical controls. The drive selector on the centre console will now be a glass-like toggle switch instead of a traditional gear lever. What the infotainment unit also gets is the latest version of the iDrive system, version 8.0.
BMW X5 powertrains
The India-bound X5 will get one petrol and one diesel option, with both of them being in-line, 6-cylinder engines. The 3.0-litre diesel power unit in the X5 30d makes 286hp and 650Nm, while the petrol unit in the X5 40i makes 381hp and 520Nm.
The facelifted SUV gets a new 8-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s xDrive four-wheel-drive system as standard along with a mild-hybrid system that consists of a 48V battery and an electric motor that is mounted to the gearbox. This provides the SUV with an additional boost of 12hp and 200Nm, which BMW claims will help with fuel efficiency and performance.
India will not get the V8 that churns out 530hp and 750Nm of torque nor the plug-in hybrid that produces a combined figure of 489hp and 700Nm.
BMW in India
The current-generation BMW X5 first debuted in 2019, and this is the first facelift the SUV is receiving. In FY2023, the X5 registered a 57 percent growth and sold over 1,000 units, however, that is still lower than its rival, the Mercedes-Benz GLE, which sold over 2,000 units.
On-road prices for the current X5 model range over the Rs 1 crore mark, and we can expect the trend to continue with the facelift that will launch in India this week.
