Prices for the upgraded, BS6-compliant Mahindra Scorpio have just come to light. As we had previously reported, the model is only available in four trims – S5, S7, S9 and S11 – with the base Scorpio S5 priced at Rs 12.40 lakh and the top-spec S11 costing Rs 16.00 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In the move to BS6, Mahindra has dropped the previous base S3 variant, the 2.5-litre diesel engine, and the 2.2-litre mHawk in the lower 120hp state of tune. All-wheel drive (AWD), which was an option on the top-spec variant is also no longer on offer. However, the interior and exterior design of the Scorpio remains unchanged.
Under the hood of the updated Scorpio lies a BS6-compliant version of the 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk engine, which is good for 140hp and 320Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox - there’s no automatic option on the BS6 Scorpio. In order to comply with BS6 norms, the 2.2 mHawk engine has been given a selective catalytic reduction system with a dedicated urea tank, along with a diesel particulate filter (similar to the system seen on the 1.5-litre diesel unit in the XUV300).
Coming to the equipment on offer, all the features that were available on the BS4 model have been carried forward. This includes kit like dual front airbags, ABS, front seatbelt reminders, rear parking sensors, air conditioning and Mahindra’s micro-hybrid technology, all of which come standard on the base S5 trim. The top-spec S11 continues to get a 7.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, auto climate control, reverse camera, faux leather upholstery, cruise control and more.
The Mahindra Scorpio doesn’t have any direct rivals since the Tata Safari was discontinued, though the Tata Hexa still provides some competition in terms of size. However, Mahindra is already working on the next-gen Scorpio, which is expected to be launched sometime mid-next year.
