General Motors (GM) sub-brand Buick has unveiled a new coupé concept called the Avista at the Detroit motor show. The concept from one of America’s oldest car brands offers insight into the design of the carmaker's forthcoming models.
The Avista features an aggressively styled exterior along with a driver-centric interior to hint the car’s performance credentials, for it packs some serious muscle. This concept gets a 2+2 layout and is powered by a 400bhp, turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol, which drives the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The engine features eco-friendly tech such as cylinder deactivation and an engine start/stop function.
Magnetically controlled dampers handle suspension duties, which allow for adjustable suspension stiffness. It is also faster than conventional dampers at responding to road undulations and body movement.
A production-ready version of the concept may not be on the cards, but the concept points to sportier designs on future production Buicks. Given Buick’s relation to Vauxhall and Opel via their parent brand, the new design philosophy could make its way into other GM sub-brands as well.
