BYD recently launched two new trims for its Atto 3 electric SUV, effectively bringing its starting price down by up to Rs 9 lakh. The new variants will help the e-SUV directly take on the MG ZS EV, while also facing some competition from the long-range variants of the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. The Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 sit in a segment below the MG ZS EV. Hence, they are smaller in size as compared to the other two. However, the XUV400 is wider than the ZS EV, and its wheelbase is longer, too. In terms of ground clearance, it leads the pack at 200mm, followed by the Nexon EV Long Range at 190mm.

The Atto 3 is now available with two battery pack options: 49.92kWh and a 60.48kWh unit with 468km and 521km range respectively. Both versions get a front-mounted single electric motor making 204hp and 310Nm. The MG ZS EV’s 50.3kWh battery offers a 461km range, and powers the front motor producing 176hp and 280Nm torque.
The Tata Nexon EV Long Range with 40.5kWh battery has a claimed range of 465km. The Mahindra XUV400 is available with two battery options, the larger of which (39.5kWh) offers a 456km range. These two e-SUVs also have a front-mounted electric motor and a front-wheel drive configuration like the Atto 3 and ZS EV.

With a 50kW DC fast charger, the BYD Atto 3 and Mahindra XUV400 take approximately 50 minutes to charge up to 80 percent. The ZS EV takes an hour to achieve the same level, while the Tata Nexon EV requires about 56 minutes.

The Tata Nexon EV Long Range and the Mahindra XUV400 carry price tags of Rs 16.99 lakh-Rs 19.49 lakh and Rs 17.49 lakh-Rs 19.39 lakh, respectively.
