Citroen India is all set to introduce its third C-cubed model in our market. As reported by us earlier, this new vehicle is a coupe-SUV based on the C3 Aircross. Speaking to Autocar India, Aditya Jairaj, Stellantis India CEO and MD, has now confirmed that they will share details about the upcoming product “in a couple of weeks,” which means Citroen's Tata Curvv rival seems to be on track for a mid-2024 launch.
- C3X will share platform, powertrain with C3, C3 Aircross SUV
- To be petrol-only at launch, EV to come by 2025
- Will get more features than existing Citroen models
Citroen C3X will rival Tata Curvv
The upcoming C3X is a fresh take on the sedan body style, with a coupe-like roofline, a notchback (like the Skoda Superb), and a crossover-like treatment that includes a raised ride height and rugged body cladding all around. The company is going to call it an ‘SUV-coupe’ to give it a unique position in its segment.
The Citroen C3X will be based on the C-Cubed platform, which underpins the C3, eC3 and C3 Aircross, and will also share several components, powertrains and equipment, among other things, to keep a check on costs. However, due to the blatant cost-cutting and feature omissions, none of the existing products have taken off in terms of sales. This has resulted in them being offered with huge discounts.
However, learning from the C3 and C3 Aircross, Citroen went back to the drawing board to equip the C3X with more features right from the start. We’re told that the C3X will get more equipment than the company had originally planned; features like electric folding mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, LED headlamps, push-button start and keyless entry could be part of the package right from the start.
Citroen C3X expected powertrain
Just like the other C-Cubed models from Citroen, the upcoming C3X will be powered by a sole 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, mated to either a manual or torque converter automatic transmission. There will be an all-electric iteration as well that will join the line-up about six months after the petrol-powered sedan goes on sale.
The sole engine option at launch, however, could be a letdown for some as rivals offer larger, more powerful turbo-petrol engines, while the Honda City also comes with the option of a hybrid powertrain.
Citroen C3X India launch details
Citroen is expected to debut the C3X around June-July 2024, followed by a launch a few months later. The electric version of the crossover sedan will be coming by January or February 2025. While the new C3X will be aimed at the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia, it will perhaps carve out its own niche as a crossover sedan with distinctive styling. Given Citroen’s price and positioning strategy, it is also likely to be more affordable than the rivals mentioned above.
