Citroen C5 Aircross facelift: what's new?
While the overall design remains the same, Citroen has given the C5 Aircross a more conventional front end design. Gone is the layered split headlamp look of the pre-facelift which is now replaced with a cleaner design, including new single piece headlamps, grille and bumper.
The wrap-around headlamps feature two sets of Daytime Running Lamps melding into illuminated louvers in the grille and flowing to the double chevron logo in the centre. The bumper retains the additional air intake slot, though the central air-dam lower down is narrower and drops the block-like elements of the pre-facelift. The air-dam is flanked by large in-set vents in the bumper said to aid the vehicle’s aerodynamics.
Moving to the sides, little seems to have changed with only the new design alloys standing out. The block-like patterning on the side cladding with the contrast insert is retained from the current SUV.
Round the back, only the tail-lamps seem to have been updated. While retaining the same shape as the outgoing model, the lamps feature new rectangular lighting elements and get a darkened finish.
Citroen C5 Aircross facelift: Interior updates
On the inside, Citroen has updated the entire centre console. The outgoing model’s 8.0-inch touchscreen has been replaced by a new free-standing 10-inch unit, while the two-piece cubed air-con vents are replaced by more conventional looking rectangular units below. The touch-based shortcut keys for the system have been retained, though they sit below the air-con vents.
Lower down, the gear-lever for the automatic gearbox has made way for a toggle switch unit and revised switchgear.
Citroen says that the front seats are now better padded with 15mm of additional padding and come with heated and cooling functions.
Citroen C5 Aircross facelift: Engine details
While all engine details are yet to be revealed, expect the Aircross to carry forward with its existing range of engines. Depending on the market, the C5 Aircross is available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, with a plug-in-hybrid option added to the line-up in 2020. The latter is confirmed to be present in the facelifted SUV.
Citroen C5 Aircross facelift: Will it come to India?
The C5 Aircross was Citroen’s debut model for the Indian market, launched last year. The India-spec SUV is a diesel-only model powered by a 177hp 2.0-litre mill paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Citroen could look at introducing the facelift in India sometime in the future.
The carmaker is currently readying to launch its first made-in-India model, the C3, in the coming months. Unlike the Aircross, the C3 will be a petrol-only model and will go up against the likes of the Maruti Ignis, Tata Punch, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
