Datsun is gearing up to introduce a comprehensive update for the smallest member in its India portfolio – the Redigo. And while the facelifted hatch is expected to arrive only after the lockdown is relaxed, images recently leaked online tell us a fair amount about what to look forward to.
As we have reported earlier, the upcoming Redigo will sport a refreshed look, with a revised front fascia and stylish two-tone wheel covers on the outside and a thoroughly spruced up cabin on the inside. However, the facelift will be more than just skin-deep, with structural upgrades ensuring compliance with crash test and pedestrian protection norms. The previous model’s 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engines will also be updated to BS6 emission standards.
Datsun will offer the Redigo facelift in four trim levels – D, A, T and T(O). While all variants will get the smaller-capacity petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, it is only the top-end T(O) that will optionally be available with the 1.0-litre petrol mill paired with either the manual or an AMT automatic gearbox.
As far as safety features and creature comforts go, the updated Datsun promises to be a significant improvement over its predecessor. In line with the latest norms, standard safety kit will include a driver-side airbag, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, driver and front passenger seatbelt reminders and a high-speed alert system.
