Datsun Redigo is all set to go under the knife for a major update in the coming months. The model has been on sale since 2016 in the Indian market and has been a slow seller, despite the company introducing minor updates periodically.

The company had launched facelifts for its Go hatchback and Go+ MPV in October, which saw both models get a significant revision, inside and out. Now, the focus has moved on to its smallest offering, the Redigo, to get a major update in order to help Datsun push sales.

Taking its cue from the Go, updates to the Redigo facelift are expected to include design-based changes outside and a more upmarket cabin. Top-spec trims may get external features like LED DRLs, alloy wheels and a rear wash/wipe. The interior of the refreshed Redigo may get a new dashboard and the top-spec variant may also get the touchscreen infotainment system borrowed from the Go.

However, the most important upgrades are expected to be in terms of safety. The current Redigo is not equipped to meet the upcoming safety norms due in April next year. The current model gets a single driver’s side airbag (but only on select higher variants) and does not come with ABS on any trim. Besides adding dual front airbags and ABS, the Redigo facelift is also expected to come with rear parking sensors, a speed warning system, seatbelt reminders and even a reinforced body shell.

Expect the refreshed Redigo to hit showrooms sometime in 2019.
