The details for Mini’s new performance EV, the all-electric Mini John Cooper Works (JCW) hatchback, are out a bit before its global debut thanks to a Chinese government filing. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has published images and specifications of the hatchback and the Aceman JCW, giving us new info about the go-faster EVs.

Mini JCW, Aceman JCW: battery, performance
While MIIT has not stated battery details, the JCW will likely use the same 49.2kWh (usable capacity) battery as the Cooper SE, which goes a WLTP-rated 401km on a single charge. However, expect the JCW’s range to be slightly lower as it has to power a 258hp front axle-mounted motor (up by 40hp compared to the SE). Mini says the electric hatchback will hit a top speed of 200kph and will be quicker to sprint from 0-100kph than the SE, which takes 6.7 seconds.
The Aceman JCW is powered by the same 258hp motor as the Mini JCW, but at 1,768kg, it is 98kg heavier. Other specifications for either model are not yet known.

Both these JCW models get aggressive side skirts, aerodynamically optimised wheels (18-inchers for the hatchback), sportier front and rear bumpers, and contrasting exterior finishes, from a blacked-out nose to blacked-out elements on the pillars and ORVMs. JCW badges adorn both cars and are likely to be present in the cabin, too. More details on their interiors are expected to be disclosed closer to their respective global debuts.
