Hyundai has quietly added the 1.6-litre diesel engine option into the base E+ and EX trims of the current-gen Creta. The carmaker is expected to reveal prices for the new entry-level 1.6-litre diesel Creta trim soon.
Presently, prices for the Creta diesel start at Rs 9.99 lakh for the base 1.4-litre diesel and range up to Rs 15.67 lakh for the top-spec, 1.6 diesel SX(O) Executive trim.
In terms of equipment, the new variants get the basic safety features – dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, seat-belt reminders and a speed-alert system. The EX additionally offers the convenience of a rear-view camera. On the comfort front, the E+ gets kit such as remote locking, manual air conditioning, electric-adjust wing mirrors, rear AC vents, power windows and a height-adjustable driver's seat. The EX additionally adds in bits such as LED DRLs, fog-lamps and a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
As in the higher variants, the 1.6-litre diesel puts out 126hp and 260Nm of torque. The unit is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The E+ and EX trims do not have an automatic gearbox on offer.
The Creta rivals the likes of the all-new Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur and Tata Harrier. Hyundai's popular SUV is set to undergo a generation change in the near future with an all-new model expected to arrive sometime in 2020.
