As per the available industry data, combined sales of the top 9 MPVs were 143,225 units from April to July 2024, accounting for 10 percent of the total.

Maruti Ertiga: 59,040 units
The Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki India's first crack at the MPV segment, has continued in FY2025 from where it left in FY2024. Last year, it was the No. 1 MPV with 1,49,757 units (up 17 percent). In the first four months of FY2025, the Ertiga has clocked total despatches of 59,040 units, up 97 percent YoY (April-July 2023: 38,834 units), which is already 39 percent of last fiscal’s sales. The popular family mover, which comes with a 1.5-litre engine powered by petrol or CNG, drove past the million-unit sales milestone in February 2024 and has sold a total of 1.08 million units till July-end.
Toyota Innova Crysta/Hycross: 34,975 units
Brand Innova walks the talk for Toyota in India. The Crysta, now available only with a 150hp, 2.4-litre diesel engine, and the Hycross, launched in December 2022 with options of a 172hp 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 184hp hybrid engine, saw despatches of 34,975 units from April to July 2024, an increase of 32 percent YoY. These MPVs are Toyota’s best-selling models, accounting for 44 percent of the company’s UV sales, which totaled 79,446 units in the past four months.
Kia Carens: 21,477 units
In FY2024, the Kia Carens sold 63,167 units, down 10 percent YoY. Now, in the first four months of FY2025, its dispatches of 21,477 units were down 19 percent YoY (April-July 2023: 26,523 units). Earlier this year, the Carens, which comes with 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine options, crossed 1,50,000 sales in the domestic market and is currently at 1,67,650 units.
Maruti XL6: 12,996 units
Sales have slowed down for the Maruti XL6, the premium derivative of the Ertiga MPV sold via the Nexa retail channel. After clocking 45,130 units (up 24 percent YoY) in FY2024, Maruti Suzuki despatched 12,996 units of the XL6 in April-July 2024, down 3 percent YoY (April-July 2023: 13,410 units). The '6' in the name highlights that this model is a pure six-seater, with captain's chairs replacing the Ertiga's middle-row bench. The XL6 comes with the same 103hp, 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engine as the Ertiga, and has the same manual and automatic gearbox options.
Renault Triber: 7,044 units
Sales of the Renault Triber have been impacted by a meek 72hp, 1.0-litre petrol engine and the absence of a diesel option. The Triber has sold 7,044 units in the first four months of FY2025, down 15 percent YoY. In FY2024, total sales were 22,446 units, down 31 percent YoY.
Toyota Rumion: 6,606 units
Launched on August 28, 2023, the Rumion – essentially Toyota’s version of the Ertiga – follows the Glanza hatchback as the second Maruti-supplied model. The MPV, which clocked sales of 5,973 units in the last seven months of FY2024, has sold 6,606 units in the April-July 2024 period. Other than mild design differences, the Rumion and Ertiga are more or less identical.
Maruti Invicto: 765 units
The Maruti Invicto, launched on July 5, 2023, has sold 765 units between April and July 2024, down 20 percent YoY (April-July 2023: 960 units). In FY2024, the Invicto had sold a total of 4,599 units and was ranked seventh among 10 MPVs. Based on the Innova Hycross, it is the second product from Toyota to be sold in India as a Maruti. Like the Toyota, the Invicto is big on space, comfort and features, but unlike the Hycross, it only gets the 184hp strong hybrid powertrain.
Though the Maruti Invicto is readily available, it is perceived that MPV buyers are happy to wait a while for the well-established Innova Hycross, which comes embellished with the Toyota brand image.
Toyota Vellfire: 322 units
At an estimated 322 units, the luxurious Vellfire has doubled its sales YoY (April-July 2023: 115 units), which bodes well for this MPV’s performance in FY2025. That’s because in FY2024, the Vellfire had sold 400 units, down 58 percent YoY. The Vellfire sits in its own niche segment of luxury MPVs, with only the Lexus LM for company, and is priced at Rs 1.47 crore (on-road Mumbai). Launched in August 2023, the Vellfire is powered by a 193hp, 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain; Toyota claims it will return a fuel efficiency of 19.28kpl.
Mahindra Marazzo: 62 units
This Mahindra MPV, discontinued after six years on sale, sold just 62 units in the first four months of FY2025, down 131 units from the 193 sold in the same period last year, representing a 58 percent decrease. Launched in September 2018, the Marazzo has sold a total of 44,809 units till the end of July 2024. Its best fiscal year was its launch year, FY2019, with 24,130 units sold. Since then, sales have declined – FY2020: 12,693 units, FY2021: 3,265 units, FY2022: 1,692 units, FY2023: 2,249 units and FY2024: 718 units.
