The new Fiat sedan, which will be based on the recently unveiled Argo hatchback, will be called Fiat Cronos.
This new sedan will be unveiled early next year. Aimed mainly at the South American markets, the new Fiat Cronos sedan will take on the likes of the Honda City, the new Hyundai Verna and the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus (Polo) sedan.
The Fiat Cronos sedan has been spied many times doing test runs on South American roads. As seen from the spy shots, the new Fiat Cronos sedan (Codename X6S) will feature similar styling as the Argo, which itself carries a sporty design. The new Fiat sedan will see minor tweaks to the front bumper and grille in order to differentiate itself from the hatchback. The car will most likely be similar to the Argo up to the B-pillar, and the rear door will be longer and differently designed due to the added length.
On the inside, the new Fiat Cronos sedan will have a dashboard similar to the Argo. However, it will get additional features and tech to make it more competitive with the new-gen Volkswagen Polo sedan (Virtus) which is likely to get multiple screens and a long list of equipment.
Depending on the model, the new Fiat Cronos sedan will get an automatic gearbox option that can either be operated by a traditional lever or via a push-button system – similar to the 595 Competizione. Additionally, a five-speed manual will also be on offer.
Under the hood, expect the new Fiat Cronos sedan to be powered with a choice of a 1.0-litre, a 1.3-litre and a range-topping 139hp, 1.8-litre flex-fuel engine, paired with the choice of a five-speed manual, a six-speed automatic or a five-speed automated manual gearbox.
The new Fiat Cronos sedan is set to go on sale in its home market, Brazil, ahead of being offered internationally. However, there is yet no news if Fiat plans to bring the all-new sedan to replace the current Linea in the Indian market.
