The first ever A90 GR Supra (or new generation Toyota Supra) has been sold at an auction in the United States for a whopping $2.1 million or nearly Rs 15 crore! The car was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona and all proceeds from the auction will go to charity. The car will bear the VIN number 202001, with 2020 denoting the model year for the car and 01 denoting the first ever (production) car to roll off the assembly line. The car was bought by Craig Jackson, the Chairman and CEO of the Barrett-Jackson auction where the car was sold.

This A90 Toyota Supra will come with a one-off paintjob right off the assembly line – a matte grey combined with a set of red ORVMs and a set of custom matte black alloy wheels. The car will also have a red and black theme on the interior with a range of carbon-fibre options thrown in too. The car will also be signed personally by the Toyota CEO, Akio Toyoda, with the winner receiving a VIP race track experience. Other add-ons include customised race suits, passes to Richmond Raceway and the chance to drive a Toyota pace car.

While reactions to the Toyota Supra on social media in particular have been a little mixed with a very love it or hate it approach, the return of the Supra name has definitely stirred a lot of interest in the Japanese sports car. The new Supra is the fifth generation of the iconic nameplate, with the first being offered as a variant to the equally popular Celica sports car. The new Toyota Supra is a result of a partnership between BMW and Toyota with the new BMW Z4 essentially a sister car, but with the convertible option.
