California-based electric carmaker Fisker's Ocean SUV has achieved 707km on the official WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure) test in its range-topping Extreme specification. That 707 kilometres will be the highest range offered by any electric SUV when it goes on sale later this year, putting the Ocean far ahead of its rival electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model X (565km range) and the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV (587km range).

  2. Available in three trim options
  3. Battery specifications not revealed

Fisker Ocean trims and power

Three trim levels will be available for the Fisker Ocean, which rivals the Audi Q4 E-tron. Sport brings a 271hp motor on the front axle for a 0-96.5kph time of 6.6sec, while Ultra gets a motor on each axle, boosting output to 533hp and cutting the sprint time to 3.9sec. Extreme brings 542hp and a 3.6sec 0-96.5kph time.

The Sport gets a ‘touring’ battery pack capable of 443km. Key features include a 17.1-inch touchscreen, a ‘big sky’ roof, an electric tailgate, cruise control and automatic headlights. The mid-range Ultra specification is fitted with a ‘hyper range’ battery, which ups the range to 628km. An open-sky roof, automatic emergency braking, remote vehicle finder, ‘doggie windows’ and a California mode are touted as standard features.

Extreme trim includes smart traction for improved stability in rough weather, a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, lane-changing assistance and a rotating central infotainment screen.

Fisker Ocean battery

Fisker hasn’t publicly detailed battery specifications for the Ocean yet, but entry-level models feature a smaller battery pack giving up to 443km of range. They have also claimed that it's still testing the model’s charging speeds.

Alternatively, drivers can choose the limited-run One spec, based on the Extreme, but the model will be limited to the first 5,000 units produced. The standard kit includes 22-inch wheels and a commemorative signature.

Top models also gain solar panels on the roof to provide more power in sunny conditions. Fisker says the roof is able to produce up to 2,414km of range per year.

Fisker in India

There is no statement on the launch of any Fisker vehicle in India yet. However, last year, Fisker opened its India headquarters in Hyderabad, Telangana with the branch of the company named Fisker Vigyan India Pvt Ltd. The India branch, in tandem with the company’s California headquarters, focuses on engineering and product development, software development, embedded electronics, virtual vehicle development, data analytics and machine learning.
