Ford has taken the wraps off the facelifted Figo sedan. Not to be confused with the made-for-India Aspire compact sedan, this Figo is a larger derivative that is manufactured at Ford’s Sanand plant in Gujarat, solely for export abroad.
As part of the mid-cycle update, the Figo sedan gets cosmetic tweaks to the exterior and interior. Changes on the outside include larger headlights and a new front grille with a chrome surround. At the back, the sedan gets a restyled bumper with a blackened lower portion to give it a dual-tone look. Enhancements inside the cabin include a redesigned dashboard (shared with the Freestyle cross-hatch) that also sees the addition of a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system comes with Ford’s Sync 3 tech, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The touchscreen is not available in all markets though.
The Figo sedan also sees substantial revisions under the hood. New to the Figo sedan are 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engines from Ford’s new Dragon family.
As for the updated Ford Aspire compact sedan for India, while it has been spotted testing repeatedly, it will only go on sale in our market in September 2018. The car for India will also get a makeover both outside and in, and will see a longer list of standard equipment. Engine options for India will include the aforementioned 96hp, 1.2-litre petrol unit and 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine. Five-speed manual gearboxes will be standard while the petrol engine will also get the option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Ford will follow up the launch of the updated Aspire with that of the revamped Figo hatchback towards November 2018.
