The crossover and SUV segments seem to have been the focus of automakers at the Sao Paulo auto show – Hyundai brought the updated Creta and Creta-based pick-up; Renault showcased a hardcore off-roader Duster, the production-spec Captur and the Kwid Outsider (an off-road inspired Kwid). Ford has now jumped on this bandwagon with the Ka Trail crossover.

Ford was initially expected to debut the facelifted EcoSport at the show but has postponed the unveiling to the LA auto show later this month. Instead the automaker brought in the Ka Trail, a crossover hatchback that is in essence a rebadged Ford Figo for international markets.

Notable crossover design elements on the Ka Trail include a faux skid plate on the bumper, raised ride height, darkened 15-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out roof rails and body cladding on the wheel arches. Other cosmetic changes include blacked-out wing mirrors, side body graphics and an additional black trim in the fog lamp housings with 'Trail' badges.

While Ford revealed no mechanical details, the Ka Trail is likely to share its engines with the Ford Ka on sale in Brazil.

Given the popularity of crossovers and SUVs in India along with multiple automakers offering crossover-styled hatchbacks, Ford could bring in a Figo crossover-hatchback, and the Ka Trail could be a preview of the model.
