Hundreds of years ago, before the south and south-east Asian countries were distinctly separated by national borders, the various kingdoms that ruled these lands were connected by what is now called the Asian Highway. Back in those days, this highway served as a crucial connector between these kingdoms, interspersing cultures, ideas and economies. In fact, this highway was crucial in the metamorphosis of these individual countries to what they are today.
Keeping this rich history in mind, Autocar India, in yet another epic road trip, will revisit the ASEAN highway in its current form. From behind the wheel of a Renault Duster, we will travel through four countries, 13 cities and 7000 kilometres, interacting with diverse but yet similar people and places throughout.
Autocar India is no stranger to the general ASEAN highway route, having organised the ASEAN rally and the BCIM rally in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Every adventure, however similar, is different.
Follow our three-week journey as we traverse deep jungles, rolling hills, dusty highways, historic sights and crowded cities on our Twitter handle and our Facebook page, July 31, 2016 onwards.
