The Honda Amaze has achieved a major milestone as it has surpassed the 4,00,000-unit cumulative sales landmark across two generations of the model.

- The first-gen Amaze sold 2.6 lakh units, while the second-gen model has 1.4 lakh units so far.
- The Amaze can be had with either a 90hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel.
How long has the Honda Amaze been on sale in India?
Launched back in April 2013, the Honda Amaze was the carmaker’s first sub-four-metre compact sedan in India. The second-generation Honda Amaze was launched in 2018 – five years after the model’s original introduction.
Interestingly, where the first-generation Amaze clocked a cumulative 2.6 lakh units in the Indian market, the second-generation model has, so far, garnered sales of 1.4 lakh units as per the company, thus taking the total tally to over 4 lakh units in the domestic market in a time frame of a little over seven years.
What engines is the Honda Amaze offered with?
Currently, in its BS6 guise, the Honda Amaze is available with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 90hp and 110Nm of torque. There is also a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine available, which produces 100hp and 200Nm of torque. Both engines can be had with either a 5-speed manual or CVT-automatic gearbox, though the diesel’s power output drops to 80hp and 160Nm of torque when paired to the CVT.
Where does the Amaze sell more – metro cities or non-metro’s?
According to Honda, Tier-I markets have contributed to almost 44 percent of the overall volumes of the Amaze, while Tier-II and Tier-III combined drive 56 percent of its sales.
Also, with the growing trend towards automatic transmission models among customers, the share of automatics in the Amaze has also increased from 9 percent in the first-generation model to more than 20 percent in the second-generation on sale right now.
What does the Honda Amaze compete with in India?
Being in the compact sedan segment it takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura, Ford Aspire and Tata Tigor in our market. However, it is worth mentioning that the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Tata Tigor do not get diesel engine options.
