Since its launch last month, the Hyundai Alcazar has received over 11,000 bookings, the carmaker has announced. The carmaker also revealed that a large portion of the bookings were for the diesel variants which constituted for about 63 percent of the total numbers.

  • 5,600 units of the Hyundai Alcazar sold in the first month
  • Diesels account for 63 percent of the bookings
  • One-third of the bookings are for the fully-loaded Signature variant

Aside from revealing the total bookings, Hyundai also revealed that its latest SUV for the Indian market had gone home to over 5,600 customers in the first month of launch.

Hyundai Alcazar diesel, fully-loaded Alcazar Signature variants in demand

As per the details provided by Hyundai, initial demand seems to be high for the diesel variants of the seven-seat mid-size SUV. The carmaker says that 63 percent of the bookings received have been skewed in favour of the diesel variants.

The Alcazar is available with a choice of two engines – a new 159hp 2.0-litre petrol and the familiar 1.5-litre engine good for 115hp and 250Nm also used in its smaller sister SUV, the Hyundai Creta. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic with both engine options and across all trim levels.

The carmaker also revealed that a third of the bookings it received have been for the Alcazar’s fully-loaded Signature trim. The range topping variants are available solely as six seaters but pack in a lot of kit such as ventilated front seats, front and rear parking sensors, 10.25-inch digital instrument screen, blind spot monitoring cameras, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen with connected car tech and powered driver’s seat.

Interestingly the jump in prices between the mid-spec Alcazar Platinum and the Signature is only up to Rs 50,000 – dual-tone variants push price up further - with only the ventilated seats and front parking sensors unique to the fully-loaded model. This could also likely be playing a factor in the demand for the fully-loaded model. You can read more about the variant-wise equipment break-up here.

Hyundai Alcazar: A brief overview

Launched in June 2021, the Alcazar is based on the popular Hyundai Creta but sits on a stretched wheelbase and gets some unique design details to help stand out. Buyers have a choice of three variants to decide between – Prestige, Platinum and Signature. The Prestige and Signature can be had in 6- or 7-seat layouts depending on the engine and gearbox combination while the fully-loaded Signature is purely a 6 seater.

The Alcazar goes up against the likes of the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV500 with the latter set to make way for the new XUV700 later this year.

Hyundai's next major launch for India is expected to be it's all-new micro-SUV codenamed AX1 or Casper. The micro-SUV is expected to make it's global debut by September, with an India launch expected to follow.
