·         Entry-level Prestige well equipped for the money

·         Mid-spec Platinum and fully-loaded Signature the ones to go for

Which Hyundai Alcazar engine-gearbox combination to pick?

Hyundai Alcazar buyers have a choice of four powertrains options across all variants. Buyers can either opt for a new 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol good for 159hp and 191Nm of torque or the familiar 115hp and 250Nm 1.5-litre diesel shared with the Creta. Both units come paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque automatic gearboxes.

In our review of the Hyundai Alcazar, we found both engines to be refined though it was the petrol that offered more effortless performance and load lugging ability. The diesel though once in stride does make for an able highway cruiser and is the one to get for buyers who require to commute large distances. If you’re primarily driving short distances in the city, then it’s the petrol Alcazar to go for. Of the gearboxes, we would recommend the 6-speed automatics which offer greater convenience and are smooth in everyday operation.

Hyundai Alcazar: What do you get for your money?

Buyers have a choice of three basic variants – Prestige, Platinum and Signature – with Hyundai calling the automatic variants of the same the Prestige(O), Platinum(O) and Signature(O). Below is a detailed list of each variant and its features.

Hyundai Alcazar Prestige (Rs 16.30-18.01 lakh)

The Prestige may be the entry level trim to the Alcazar range but it’s well equipped for the mpacks in a lot of kit. Aside from the basics like dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, power windows etc it notably gets all-wheel disc brakes, 17-inch alloys, ESC, stability control, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitor, a rear view camera, auto dimming rear-view mirror, auto LED headlamps with DRLs, 64 colour ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, auto climate control, AC vents in the second and third rows – the latter with independent blower controls, a wireless phone charger (two in the 6-seater), 10.25-inch touchscreen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, BlueLink connectivity, remote engine start, sunshades for the rear windows, rear wiper and washer and a height adjustable driver seat.

The Prestige trim is available in both six and seven-seat layouts in both engine options.

The auto ‘box equipped Prestige(O) also gets an electric parking brake, an air purifier, drive & traction modes (AT only) and paddle shifters (AT only). Buyers though can only opt for this variant as a petrol 6-seater or diesel 7-seater.

Hyundai Alcazar Platinum (Rs 18.22-19.79 lakh)

In addition to the Prestige(O), the mid-spec Platinum, gets feel good features such as a 360-degree camera, blind spot camera, puddle lamps, larger 18-inch alloys, 10.25-inch digital instrument screen, leatherette upholstery, headrest cushions (2nd row), powered driver’s seat and a Bose sound system. Importantly this version also gets side and curtain airbags.

As with the Prestige Automatic, the Platinum(O) gets drive and traction modes, paddle shifters and a side step for easier ingress and egress.

Do note that the Platinum manual variants are only 7 seaters and only the automatics are 6 seaters.

Hyundai Alcazar Signature (Rs 18.71-19.99 lakh)

The Alcazar signature is only available with the six-seat layout and gets a few notable feature additions. These include front parking sensors and ventilated front seats. As with the Platinum(O) the Signature(O) offers drive and traction modes, paddle shifters and a side step.

The Signature is also the only variant to get the option of dual-tone paint finish.

Hyundai Alcazar: Which seating configuration should you pick?

Picking a variant also entails keeping in mind the uses of the vehicle. For the primarily chauffeur driven, the 6-seat Alcazar with its captain chairs in the middle row will hold appeal while those looking for something to travel with the whole family the seven-seater would make more sense. Though it would be best to consider the Alcazar as an occasional 6- or 7-seater.

Hyundai Alcazar: Which variant to buy?

Now to answer the question. The base Prestige variant can come across as a value option with Hyundai having equipped it with a substantial list of features. It’s however the higher spec models that we would recommend. The mid-spec Platinum is loaded to the gills with almost every conceivable feature a buyer in this segment could want though it is also accompanied by a notable premium in pricing.

Stretch your budget a little further and you could go for the fully-loaded Signature that gets the ventilated front seats and front parking sensors. While those interested in the manual will have to pay a premium of about Rs 50,000 – accounting for the 7-seater to 6-seater transition – over the Platinum buyers of the automatic have to only shell out roughly between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000 more.

Buyers looking for a 7-seater automatic diesel can only opt for the diesel Prestige.
