Hyundai has announced that deliveries for the 2020 Creta have crossed the 20,000 mark since its debut on March 16. The midsize SUV, which was launched just over a week before the nationwide lockdown came into effect, has also managed to garner more than 55,000 bookings over the course of four months.

Hyundai Creta sales post a positive trend
Though the coronavirus outbreak has dampened market sentiments, sales have shown an uptick recently. The new Hyundai Creta was the top-selling passenger vehicle in the country in May 2020 with sales of 3,212 units. The following month saw the mid-size SUV take the second place on the sales chart, just behind the Maruti Alto, owing to 7,207 units sold. While these figures are still below the 10,000-plus units that the previous-gen Creta achieved monthly at its peak, they do highlight a positive trend for the Hyundai SUV.
Majority of Hyundai buyers online opt for the Creta
Hyundai reported earlier this month that its Click to Buy online sales platform has seen a strong response since its introduction back in March. The digital channel has attracted over 1,900 bookings and 20,000 enquiries in a four-month period. The Korean automaker has now revealed that 30 percent of the enquiries and an overwhelming 76 percent of the bookings on the Click to Buy website have been for the 2020 Hyundai Creta.
Hyundai Creta diesel: The popular choice
While some automakers have shied away from diesels in the BS6 era, Hyundai has continued to remain committed to the technology and this has started to pay dividends for the automaker in the midsize SUV segment. Hyundai Creta diesel bookings accounted for 55 percent of the total orders till mid-June, and that share has now grown to 60 percent. The Creta comes with a 115hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine that is available with a manual transmission in all five trim levels – E, EX, S, SX, SX(O) – and a torque convertor automatic gearbox in the top two variants.
Hyundai claims that the 140hp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine, coupled to a DCT auto transmission in the SX and SX(O) trims, has been well received too. The Creta line-up also includes a 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol that gets a manual transmission as standard, and can be optioned with a CVT automatic gearbox.
Priced at Rs 9.99-17.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Hyundai Creta rivals the Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, MG Hector and the Tata Harrier in the Indian market.
