Hyundai is gearing up to launch the mid-life refresh of the Grand i10 Nios. The India-spec test mule as well as the left-hand drive export unit were spotted near the company’s plant in Chennai. The updated Grand i10 Nios is expected to be launched in 2023.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios facelift: exterior design

The spy shots show the partially covered exterior of the upcoming Grand i10 Nios. The most obvious change would be the boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lamps that are now placed towards the edges of the bumper rather than the grille.

In profile, the facelifted Grand i10 Nios can be seen with a new design for the alloy wheels. While the rear of the car was heavily camouflaged, it is evident that the new Grand i10 Nios will come with an updated design for the tail-lamps.

Older spy shots of Hyundai’s hatchback, spotted in Germany, show the Grand i10 Nios is a sky blue shade. If that is launched here, it will be a new colour scheme for the hatchback in India. The spy shots seen in India show both test mules in white. Currently, the Grand i10 Nios is offered in India in five colours – Titan Gray, Typhoon Silver, Aqua Teal, Fiery Red and Polar White – and two dual-tone paint schemes.

While the spy shots don’t show the interior of the Grand i10 Nios properly, it is expected to get an updated dashboard, a new instrument cluster and a redesigned interior.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios facelift: powertrain

There are no changes expected under the hood of the Grand i10 Nios facelift. It will continue with the 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns out 83hp and 113.8Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. It is also available with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 100hp and 172Nm but is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is also an option of a factory-fitted CNG kit in the 1.2-litre petrol engine, but it develops 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque and is coupled to a 5-speed gearbox.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios facelift: rivals

The facelifted Grand i10 Nios will face direct competition from the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift, which is due to be launched in 2024. The Swift will be the only hatchback in India to offer a strong hybrid powertrain.
