Hyundai i20: new variants

So far, the 1.2 petrol i20 was only available with a manual gearbox on the top-spec Asta (O) trim. With the introduction of the new 1.2 CVT Asta (O), the top-spec variant of the 1.2 petrol can also be had with the convenience of an automatic gearbox.

Meanwhile, the new 1.0 DCT Sportz variant has brought down the entry point to the turbo-petrol DCT powertrain by a fair margin. Previously only available on Asta and Asta (O) variants, the new 1.0 DCT Sportz trim is Rs 1.05 lakh cheaper than the next 1.0 DCT Asta variant priced at Rs 10.81 lakh.

However, contrary to what was previously reported, Hyundai hasn’t discontinued the 1.2 CVT Asta and 1.0 DCT Asta variants from the i20 range as of yet. These variants continue to be listed on Hyundai’s website, although they could be discontinued in the future, depending on availability of stocks.

Hyundai i20: Sportz, Asta, Asta (O): what's new?

Hyundai has also utilised this opportunity to add some new features to the existing variants of the i20. For instance, the Sportz variant now gets automatic air conditioning, while previously it only got manual AC. Automatic AC so far was only available from the Asta variant. The update also sees the addition of cruise control previously only limited to Asta (O) variant. These two new features, however, have not been introduced on the 1.0 iMT Sportz variant of i20.

Additionally, the i20 Asta trim now gets a sunroof as standard – it was previously only available on the 1.0 iMT Asta model. And while the Asta variant also sees the addition of cruise control, there are two major deletions – it now gets a smaller 8.0-inch touchscreen in place of the 10.25-inch unit, and also sees the deletion of connected car features.

The Asta(O), meanwhile, gets some additional voice commands for the Blue Link system. Lastly, the wheel covers on the Magna variants are now finished in a gun metal shade instead of silver.

Hyundai i20: rivals

The i20 rivals the likes of the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, Toyota Glanza and Volkswagen Polo. These updates on the i20 have come just when Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new Baleno and the Toyota Glanza is also due to be updated soon. Additionally, the Tata Altroz will also finally be updated with a DCT automatic gearbox very soon.
