Earlier today, Hyundai shared the first design sketch of its upcoming hatchback (codenamed AH2), and now, it has kicked off the 'Naamkaran' naming campaign for its new small car.

As part of this campaign, Hyundai is inviting everyone who is 18 years of age or older, and resides in India, to chip in with their suggestions for the final name of the AH2 hatchback. The contest gets underway today, and will run till September 25, 2018. As we'd told you before, the final name for the AH2 hatchback will be revealed on October 4, 2018.

Contest details

Name suggestions for Hyundai's new tall boy hatch have to be in English, and individuals can send in their entries via the official website (www.HyundaiNaamkaran.com) or via SMS or WhatsApp (text your entry: 'XYZ') to 8652000377, 8652000388 or 8652000399. There is no limit to the number of entries from an individual. At the end of the campaign, Hyundai will shortlist the most popular names entered into the contest; from this set of people, the carmaker will pick one lucky winner who will get to drive home the base variant of the AH2 hatchback.

It is expected that the new small car will be called the Santro, albeit with a suffix. The Santro is the car that established Hyundai in India and, even today, the name enjoys strong brand equity and recall.

In case you've missed it so far, the AH2 hatchback will be a replacement for the Eon. The design sketch confirms the AH2's tall-boy design (a la the original Santro). It's expected to feature top-notch materials on the inside, and will likely be powered by an updated version of the Santro Xing’s 1.1-litre petrol engine. The AH2 will also be the first Hyundai to get an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

Launch of the AH2 hatchback is expected to take place shortly after the final name is confirmed. Hyundai will price the AH2 to take on the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Tata Tiago.

What would you want to name the AH2 – call it the Santro, or give it an entirely new name? Let us know in the comments... and remember to pass it on to Hyundai!
