Hyundai will introduce an all-new crossover, based on the Bayon sold overseas, alongside the Venue SUV to spruce up its SUV and crossover market in India.
Sources say the crossover (codenamed: Bc4i) based on the new-gen i20 platform is under development, and it will hit the roads in FY2027. However, the Bayon-based crossover will be launched in second-gen form in India to take on rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Taisor and Tata Nexon.
- Will be priced in the Rs 10 lakh-15 lakh region
- Will have a lot in common with the i20
- Engine likely to be shared with the Venue
The model will be positioned in the core of the Indian passenger vehicle market – Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh range – and offer a different-looking alternative to the Venue.
The Bayon is a crossover based on the i20, like what the Fronx is to the Baleno, and the i20 Active was to the older i20. The high level of parts sharing between the i20 and the Bayon should help Hyundai price it competitively. So, the price difference between the two should be similar to that between the Baleno and Fronx.
Our sources say that the model will be produced at the company’s existing Sriperumbudur facility, with the all-new Venue (codenamed: QU2i) moving to Talegaon, Maharashtra, in 2025.
