Hyundai has so far kept its electric car plans for India close to its chest. But come Auto Expo 2018, there will be more clarity regarding its electric vehicle roadmap. The Korean carmaker is expected to have an electric vehicle concept on display at the motor show. While no technical details are known as yet, Autocar India can confirm the EV will be a sedan. Hyundai is also known to be evaluating the all-electric Kona SUV for a possible launch in India, and the model will also be on display.
Auto Expo 2018 will also mark the debut of Hyundai’s new hatchback. The model that is expected to replace the Eon and i10 is internally known as the ‘Hyundai Family Concept’. Spy pics of the car undergoing testing suggest the car will have a high roof or ‘tall boy’ silhouette, allowing maximisation of space inside the cabin. The new Hyundai model is expected to be pitched against the Maruti Celerio and Tata Tiago.
The facelifted i20 could also be shown at the Auto Expo 2018 though we understand Hyundai might push back its unveil to later in the year. The Korean manufacturer’s new ‘cascading’ grille design, LED tail-lamps and new alloy wheels are expected to lead the list of exterior changes on the i20. An updated infotainment system could also find its way to Hyundai’s popular premium hatchback.
Motorsports enthusiasts will also get a chance to get up close to Hyundai’s WRC car, which will also be part of the Korean carmaker’s Auto Expo 2018 display.
