- Venue turbo-petrol variants account for nearly 44 percent of cumulative sales

Hyundai’s first compact SUV, the Venue, has completed a year on sale in India. Since its launch on May 21, 2019, the carmaker says that it has sold over 97,400 units of the Venue, with a further 7,400-plus units sold in international markets. This takes the cumulative sales of the compact SUV to over 1 lakh units.
The carmaker also said that with more than 24,400 units sold in the period between January and May, the Venue was the bestselling model in its segment in 2020.
Turbo-petrol and 1.5 diesel in demand
Hyundai says that it has seen strong demand for the Venue 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, with over 44 percent of its sales in India coming for this model alone. Of this, over 15,000 units were of the turbo-petrol paired with the company’s 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Hyundai also revealed that its new 1.5-litre diesel accounted for 30 percent of the Venue’s sales. This contribution came in the narrow window of March to June 2020. At the time of launch, the Venue came with a now-discontinued 1.4-litre diesel engine, which was also used in the previous-gen Creta, pre-facelift Verna and the i20.
Over 30,000 takers for Blue Link connected car tech
Hyundai said that over 30,000 of its Venue customers had opted for variants with the brand’s connected car technology. This indicates towards over 30,000 customers having opted for higher variants of the Venue with the tech available as standard on the fully-loaded SX(O) and SX DCT variants.
Who are the Venue’s rivals?
The compact SUV segment has grown to become a highly competitive and popular segment with nearly all major mass market carmakers having a model. Currently, the segment includes models such as the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300. The segment is set to expand in the coming months with the introduction of the Venue’s cousin, the Kia Sonet compact SUV, Toyota’s Vitara Brezza-based compact SUV called the Urban Cruiser, and the Renault Kiger. Nissan’s Magnite is expected early next year.
