Volkswagen’s return to Auto Expo this year saw the manufacturer showcase four new SUVs, all of which are headed to India in the future. One of the first ones to reach dealerships will be the T-Roc midsize SUV, whose launch is slated to take place in the coming months.
The T-Roc will be brought in as a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU) to India, under the 2,500 cars import rule. Dealers have already started accepting bookings for the SUV for Rs 25,000. Given below are some details of the India-spec T-Roc.
The T-Roc in India will be available in a single, full-loaded variant. Features on offer will include full-LED headlamps and tail-lamps, dual-tone alloy wheels, and front and rear parking sensors. Equipment on the inside includes a digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof and ‘Vienna’ leather seats. Standard safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a parking camera.
Built on the VW Group’s hugely flexible MQB platform, the 4.2m T-Roc sits below the Tiguan in the Volkswagen SUV line-up. The T-Roc for India will get a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that produces 150hp and 250Nm of torque and is mated to a 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard.
VW’s SUV offense in India is set to kick start with the Tiguan AllSpace, bookings for which have been opened at Rs 50,000. The 7-seat model will replace the current 5-seater and will be launched sometime next month. VW’s T-Roc will be launched shortly after, in mid-April 2020, with prices expected to be around Rs 23 lakh. The Volkswagen T-Roc will compete with the Jeep Compass and the upcoming Hyundai Tucson facelift in our market.
