Since its launch at the auto expo last year, the XE has remained Jaguar’s only offering in India lacking a diesel engine option. Now the automaker has said that it will launch the diesel model of the XE before the end of April.
From the latter half of 2016, JLR India has been moving to the new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine. The XE too will be offered with this new-generation four-cylinder diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
However, what is not know is if the Ingenium diesel will offer the same output as it does in the XF and the F- Pace where it develops 180hp, or Jaguar will introduce a lower-powered 163hp unit under the hood of the baby Jaguar. The automaker could also offer the sedan with the 2.0-litre diesel in both states of tune, like the current petrol model that offers two power outputs.
The diesel XE could be the shot in the arm for the sedan that is right now saddled with being one of the more expensive sedans in the segment and, of course, lacking a diesel option.
