Jeep India has finally revealed that its BS6 Compass line-up is priced between Rs 16.49 lakh and Rs 24.99 lakh. This means that the BS6 Compass range now starts Rs 89,000 higher, with the BS6 Compass diesel starting at Rs 17.99 lakh, which is a Rs 1.38 lakh increase over its BS4-spec counterpart.

Do note that the increase in prices is not just due to the move to BS6 emission norms, but because Jeep has also discontinued the previously offered entry-level Sport variant. The entry-level variant in the BS6 Jeep Compass range is the well-equipped Sport Plus variant (Rs 16.49-17.49 lakh), which gets features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, power adjustable wing mirrors, dual-zone climate control and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Standard safety kit includes two airbags, rear disc brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, and an electronic parking brake. As before, the Sport Plus only gets a 6-speed manual gearbox with the 163hp 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and the 173hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine.

The American SUV specialist has also streamlined the Compass’ range by offering a total of four variants - the Sport Plus, Longitude, Longitude Plus and Limited Plus. This means the Longitude (O) and Limited variants have also been discontinued.

In addition to the Sport Plus’ features, the Compass Longitude (Rs 19.40-21.96 lakh) gets 17-inch alloys, power-folding wing mirrors, a parking camera, keyless entry and go, and front and rear fog lamps. This variant is only available with the diesel engine but it gets the 9-speed automatic gearbox as an option. The Compass diesel-automatics get four-wheel-drive, Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction system and cruise control as standard.

Engine-gearbox options on the Compass Longitude Plus (Rs 19.69-22.86 lakh) include the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, the diesel-manual and the diesel-automatic. Features such as roof rails, Bi-xenon HID headlights, LED DRLs and leather seats are standard.

The range-topping Limited Plus (Rs 21.92-24.99 lakh) is available with the same powertrain options as the Longitude Plus, but gets more kit including four more airbags, a panoramic sunroof, LED tail-lights, dual-tone colours, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights and wipers, leather upholstery,  an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

In petrol form, the Jeep Compass’ direct rival is the recently launched Volkswagen T-Roc and will also rival the Skoda Karoq. The Compass diesel meanwhile does not have a direct rival, but will find competition in the form of the Tata Harrier.
