Jeep India is set to introduce a new special edition variant of its Compass SUV, dubbed the Night Eagle. It will be based on the mid-spec Longitude Plus trim level and will be launched in the coming weeks. The carmaker has also released a teaser imager for the Night Eagle on its official Instagram handle.

What do you get in the Compass Night Eagle special edition?

The Compass Night Eagle will be available only in a black paint scheme and will get gloss black detailing on the grille and around the window line, along with black Jeep badges. Even the 18-inch alloy wheels will be finished in gloss black. Inside the cabin, the Night Eagle gets special ‘techno’ part-leather seat upholstery and gloss black trim around the infotainment screen and AC vents.

Apart from these, the Jeep Compass Night Eagle is expected to get an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality, push-button start with keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, Xenon projector headlamps, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, ESP and hill-start assist.

What’s powering the Compass Night Eagle?

In International markets, the Jeep Compass gained new petrol and diesel engine options last month. However, for India, the Compass Night Eagle will continue to employ the standard Compass’ 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 163hp and 250Nm and the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel unit which produces 173hp and 350Nm. Both engines get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, with the petrol getting a 7-speed dual-clutch auto and the diesel getting a 9-speed torque-converter automatic as options. A four-wheel-drive system with surface-specific modes will be on offer with the diesel engine.

What’s to come from Jeep?

FCA India will launch the facelifted Jeep Compass in early 2021, which is expected to get a number of design changes, including redesigned headlights, bumpers and grille. Following that, the carmaker will introduce the 7-seat version of the Compass, codenamed Project 598 or Jeep ‘D-SUV’, which could feature a more powerful iteration of the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine.

In terms of price, expect the Night Eagle to cost a slight premium over the Longitude Plus variants that it’s based on.
