Jeep India has finally released a first teaser of the upcoming Compass Trailhawk SUV for the domestic market. The Compass Trailhawk is a more off-road focused variant of the SUV that is already on sale in many international markets. The company has already begun production of the India-spec Compass Trailhawk at its Ranjangaon plant ahead of its market launch that is scheduled to take place in the coming months.
Apart from releasing the first teaser, Jeep India has also confirmed that the Compass Trailhawk will come with the much-awaited diesel-automatic configuration. This model will launch with a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine (it makes 170hp and 350Nm in the Euro-spec Compass) with a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
The Compass Trailhawk comes with Jeep's hardcore Active Drive Low 4x4 System – a four-wheel-drive system with a low range, a rear-locking differential, hill-descent control and an additional Rock mode for the Selec-Terrain system (which brings the total to five modes, including Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Auto).
The Compass Trailhawk gets subtle interior tweaks as well, with special Trailhawk badging on the seats and around the cabin. It will also come with cruise control, a new instrument cluster with a colour multi-info display, a larger touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and a panoramic sunroof, as standard.
The Compass Trailhawk’s ground clearance of 225mm is 20mm more than the standard model. It gets reprofiled front and rear bumpers that improve approach and departure angles, along with a higher-set air intake to improve water-wading abilities to 480mm (a 75mm increase over the standard Compass). Additionally, the Compass Trailhawk also gets underside skid plates and all-weather floor mats. The model is also expected to come with tow hooks painted in red, a black anti-glare decal on the bonnet and the justified ‘Trail-Rated’ badge.
Prices for the Compass Trailhawk are expected to start at around Rs 27 lakh mark in the Indian market. Jeep dealers are expected to start accepting bookings for the rugged Compass Trailhawk by next month.
