The Kia Carens is due for a major update next year, and in addition to a cosmetic facelift, the brand will introduce an all-electric version of the MPV in our market. Spy shots of the Kia Carens EV have surfaced online, confirming the differences it will have compared to its ICE counterpart.

  1. Carens EV will take on the BYD eMax 7
  2. Will sport a slightly different look than the standard Carens
  3. To have the same powertrain as the Creta EV

Kia Carens EV: what do the spy shots reveal?

Like most mass-market EVs, the Carens EV will share its platform, body shell, and most interior bits with the standard model. However, there will be some styling changes, especially at the front, which will feature a closed-off grille likely resembling that of the Kia EV9 flagship. The India launch of the three-row full-size e-SUV is set for October 3. The front and rear bumpers of the Carens EV will also be restyled, and the alloy wheel design will resemble the ones seen on the Kia EV line-up, especially the EV3 and EV5.

Also, a close look reveals that the test mule seen in these spy shots has a different suspension setup at the back and the exhaust pipe assembly is absent.

Kia Carens electric MPV expected powertrain, platform

We can confirm that the Carens EV will share most of its powertrain with the upcoming Creta EV, as both models have a lot in common in terms of platform and other mechanical components.

The Creta EV will go on sale before the Carens EV and will come with a 45kWh battery pack that powers an electric motor shared with the entry-level version of the new-gen Kona EV available overseas.  Both the Carens EV and the Creta EV will come with a front-mounted electric motor.

Upon launch, the Carens EV will take on the likes of the BYD eMax 7, which will be its only direct rival as far as electric MPVs go. The global debut of the Carens EV is slated to take place only in the first half of next year.

Ahead of the Carens EV, Kia will introduce multiple new products, starting with the new Carnival and the EV9 on October 3 and the Syros in early 2025.
