It is already known that Kia Motors is preparing an India entry next year. The company had also announced that the first model for our market will be the SP concept-based SUV. Earlier this year, a naming contest for the production-spec SUV was announced, and while there were speculations that the production name would be 'Trazor', Kia Motors India today, in an official statement announced the official name would be revealed at the launch event which will take place in the second half of 2019.
The SP concept made its global debut at the Auto Expo 2018. The concept SUV featured sharp styling all around, with a squarish design that blends well with Kia’s signature 'Tiger Nose' grille. It is likely that most of the styling cues from the concept will be seen on the final product. The Kia SP concept’s interior featured a dual-tone layout with a wide touchscreen taking centre stage.
The production-spec SUV is likely to share its underpinnings, engines, and transmissions with the Hyundai Creta. Upon launch, this new SUV will take on the likes of the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, and the Renault Captur.
Expect Kia to reveal more details about the upcoming SUV closer to launch.
