Lamborghini’s motorsport division, Squadra Corsa, has taken the wraps off an even more focused, track-spec Urus called the Urus ST-X Concept. The track-only version of the already fast SUV will be used in the brand’s one-make championship which is scheduled to begin in 2020.
The Urus ST-X Concept features a number of changes – outside, inside and under the hood – over the standard model and has benefitted from Lamborghini Squadra Corsa’s motorsport experience and expertise.
While the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine (that makes 650hp and 850Nm of torque) continues, it now receives larger intakes for improved cooling. Lightweight materials have been used extensively to bring the SUV’s kerb weight down by 25 percent (from 2,200kg). The race-spec SUV also sports a number of FIA-approved safety elements such as a steel roll cage, a fire suppression system and an FT3 fuel tank.
In terms of its looks, the Urus ST-X gets a new green exterior finish along with carbon fibre on the bonnet. A large rear spoiler, new hexagonal racing exhausts and 21-inch single-nut aluminium alloy wheels shod with Pirelli tyres complete the outside changes.
The one-make championship that the track-only Urus will compete in combines circuit and off-road racing, with FIA-approved tracks in Europe and the Middle-east. In the same manner as Ferrari, Lamborghini’s series will follow an “arrive and drive” formula designed to offer drivers/customers car and technical support during the race weekends.
