The Land Rover Discovery SVX concept car was first seen at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show. At the time, the company confirmed a follow-up production version of the model to go on sale by the end of 2018. It has now been announced that the rougher, tougher Discovery SVX will not make production as planned.

The original concept car was fitted with a 518bhp, 5.0-litre supercharged V8. However, Land Rover has now confirmed to our sister publication, Autocar UK, that the Discovery is no longer destined to have a V8 engine. This means that the Discovery SVX is no longer going ahead; at least in its current form.

While the SVX was being touted as the range-topper of the Discovery range – built as a more extreme, off-road-focused V8-powered model – the model was also going to launch the SVX sub-brand from Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) for its most extreme vehicles. SVX models were intended to sit alongside SVR performance models and SVAutobiography luxury cars as part of a three-pronged range of vehicles designed by SVO.

Despite this latest development, a spokesman has said that the brand would still be pushing ahead with the SVX badge in the future; albeit on models that remain unspecified as of now.

This move follows Land Rover's cancellation of the two-door Range Rover SV Coupé recently – despite the limited-run model being put on sale and being revealed in its final production form in Geneva, last year.
