Lexus’ push into the Indian market will revolve around three products, the ES sedan, the RX SUV and the range-topping, full-size LX SUV. While the LX will look to attract customers with its massive size and luxurious cabin, the RX is set to tap into the increasing demand of alternatively fueled cars.
Now in its fourth generation, the SUV will enter India as the RX450h petrol-hybrid. A rival to the likes of the Mercedes GLC and the Audi Q5, the RX will be the only hybrid in the segment which should help give it an edge on its rivals though with prices expected to exceed its rivals, it is yet to be seen how customers will respond to the Lexus SUV. Interestingly, alongside a standard model, Lexus is also planning to offer a sportier F-Sport variant.
Lexus RX450h engine
The RX450h will be powered by a 308hp petrol-electric hybrid powertrain combining an electric motor and a 3.5-litre V6. The powertrain will be paired to a CVT automatic gearbox as standard with power channeled to all-four wheels. The F-Sport will feature the same powertrain but will get additions such as adaptive suspension, active stabiliser bars and additional drive modes.
Lexus RX450h features
The RX will comes generously equipped with features such as drive modes, dual-zone climate control, power-adjust steering column, power-adjust heated and ventilated front seats with memory, LED headlamps, reverse camera, powered tailgate, power folding and heated rear-seats, sunroof, park assist with auto braking and an infotainment system with navigation. Also part of the kit will be 10 airbags and (vehicle) stability control program. Interestingly, the India-spec model will get 18-inch alloy wheels in place of the international car’s 20-inch units. The F-Sport will additionally feature a sportier body kit. Initial batches of the RX450 though are expected to miss out on the navigation for the infotainment system.
Lexus RX450h price, rivals
The RX450h will rival the likes of the Audi Q5 and the Mercedes GLC when it launches in the market. The RX will be a CBU import with prices expected to be higher than its rivals. Lexus is also gearing up for local assembly in the country though that is only expected to commence at a later stage.
Lexus RX450h launch date
