In the run up to the launch of the new Mahindra Alturas (essentially the second-gen SsangYong Rexton), a few revealing details of the new SUV have been released online. The rival to the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner will be on display in Mahindra showrooms from November 26, though prices will be revealed on November 24, as we had exclusively reported earlier. The pre-booking amount has been set at Rs 50,000.
The seven-seat SUV looks much sharper compared to the model that it replaces (the first-gen Rexton) and comes with five exterior colour options - New Pearl White, Napoli Black, Lakeside Brown, Dsat Silver and Regal Blue. As we had revealed earlier, the Alturas will be available in two variants – G2 and G4 – both of which get the same exterior finish. However, the former is a rear-wheel-drive only trim while the latter gets all-wheel-drive and more equipment such as a sunroof.
Power will come from a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 180.5hp and 450Nm of torque, which is sent to the wheels via a Mercedes-sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox.
Besides the sunroof, Mahindra will equip its new SUV with segment-rivalling kit in the form of Nappa leather upholstery, powered and ventilated front seats with memory function and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
While Mahindra is pegging the Alturas in the Rs 30 lakh SUV range, expect its ex-showroom price to undercut the Rs 31.07-32.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) you’ll have to shell out for the diesel automatic Toyota Fortuner.
