EXCLUSIVE!
Mahindra had launched its long-awaited Marazzo MPV last year and the model has seen decent success in the market. The Marazzo is currently available with a sole engine and gearbox option – a BS-IV-compliant 125hp 1.5-litre diesel mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. At its launch, Mahindra had announced that an automatic variant would join in a little later, most likely with an upgraded BS-VI engine.
However, sources have told us that Mahindra has rethought the Marazzo automatic’s launch time. Since the BS-VI engine is still some time away and will come close to the April 2020 deadline, the company will introduce an Magnetti-Marelli sourced AMT gearbox on the Marazzo soon as a stop-gap measure till the upgraded engine arrives. Adding an automatic gearbox to the Marazzo would help Mahindra combat its rival – the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga – better in terms of sales and appeal as more and more customers are opting for an automatic transmission due to increasing traffic. The AMT gearbox on the Marazzo will be mated to the same 1.5-litre diesel engine. Mahindra will replace this gearbox with a Aisin-sourced torque convertor unit in the BS-VI version of the Marazzo
Mahindra Marazzo AMT is likely to hit showrooms sometime next month.
The Marazzo is available in eight variants and in both seven- and eight-seat configurations. The MPV is priced from Rs 9.99-14.37 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India).
