Joining the likes of Maruti Suzuki and MG Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra has announced zero sales in India in April 2020, owing to the nationwide lockdown in force. The utility vehicle specialist had sold only 3,384 units in the previous month, itself an 88 percent drop in sales. Mahindra and Mahindra did manage to export 733 units in April 2020, however.
While vehicle sales and production took a back seat Mahindra switched it's attention to the fight against COVID-19. The utility vehicles specialist had repurposed all eight of its assembly plants - including the ones in Nagpur, Zaheerabad, Pithampur, Haridwar and Kandivali - to produce face shields. Some plants were also developing a low-cost ventilator and manufacturing hand sanitisers.
During the ongoing lockdown, prices for a number of BS6 Mahindra cars have been revealed including the KUV100 NXT, XUV500, Scorpio and Alturas G4. While the Indian company had passed up on a proposal for fresh funding to SsangYong early on, citing the pandemic, it will continue supporting all other non-fund initiatives of its Korean subsidiary.
