Mahindra is gearing up for the market launch of its new S201 SUV. The company just introduced its biggest SUV ever, the Alturas and will now announce the market name of the S201 SUV on December 19, 2018. The event was schedule to take place earlier this month but was postponed due to undisclosed reasons.
There are talks that this new model could be christened Mahindra XUV300 so that the company could cash in on the brand’s great recall value, thanks to the larger and popular XUV500 which also features a monocoque construction, just like the S201.
The company is currently putting final touches on this new SUV which will be a key rival to not just the Vitara Brezza but also the Hyundai Creta. According to our sources, the S201 will be positioned at the higher end of the compact SUV segment. The model is actually based on a modified SsangYong Tivoli platform.
Mahindra will load the production-spec SUV to the gills in terms of features. As reported by us earlier, the SUV will come with a sunroof, a large touchscreen, cruise control and even features like dual-zone climate control system. The compact SUV is also likely to come with projector headlamps and daytime running lamps. Top-spec S201s are expected to come with stylish 17-inch alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the S201 diesel is more powerful than its rivals, with a 123hp 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine to be the mainstay for India. There will also be a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that will make its debut on this SUV.
The SUV will come with more than two airbags and four wheel disc brakes. Additionally, ABS, ESP and rear parking sensors are expected to be offered on all variants.
Expect Mahindra to launch the S201 SUV sometime early next year.
