Mahindra Scorpio N variant break-up
With so many possible combinations, the Mahindra Scorpio N variant range can be difficult to wrap your head around, but we will attempt to break it down.
Both the petrol and diesel engines can be had with automatic gearboxes, each one a 6-speed torque-converter unit, but if you want 4WD, it’s only available on the diesel – albeit with either the manual or the automatic.
When it comes to the trim level break-up, you can get an automatic in the Z4, Z8 and Z8L trims; but not on the Z6 petrol. The 4WD, on the other hand, which can be had only with the diesel engines, is available on the Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8L trims. The six-seat, captain chair option, however, is only available with the top-spec Z8L trim. The base Z2 trim, meanwhile, does not get any of these new options.
You can read or watch our reviews of the petrol and diesel automatic versions of the Scorpio N, in both 6- and 7-seat guises, and which include a brief off-road test of the 4Xplor 4WD version too.
Mahindra Scorpio N bookings yet to open
Almost as complicated as the Scorpio N variant range is the process to book and purchase one. After the staggered price reveal that began on June 27, Mahindra opened a ‘Add to Cart' function on its website on July 21, where buyers could register their interest and preference of variant, and began test drives at dealerships in select cities.
Although the remaining prices have now been revealed, bookings will only commence on July 30, a full month after the SUV’s launch, with deliveries only scheduled to begin from September 26. Mahindra says that over 20,000 units are planned for the initial rollout until December 2022 and the top-end Z8L variant will be prioritized for the initial deliveries based on customer enquiry trends.
With the full price range revealed, it’s clear there is a big price overlap with Mahindra’s other blockbuster SUV, the XUV700, but the brand is confident the two models cater to very different customers, and hence there will be little cannibalisation.
