Mahindra has introduced the Thar Adventure series in South Africa, where the made-in-India Mahindra Thar Adventure series comes standard with a long list of off-road add-ons.
The new top-spec Thar Adventure Series is based on the 2.5-litre, CRDe variant of the SUV. As part of the new top-end trim, the Thar it gets a unique front bumper with LED lights from Bundu Gear, which is designed to improve the SUVs 44-degree approach angle. The bumper gets an integrated bull bar. The Thar Adventure series also gets brightly coloured tow points and a snorkel is standard, as are rock sliders on each sides. Diamond-plated metal side-steps are standard, too. The SUV gets a new rear bumper, too, which has visible recovery points and a tow bar.
The Thar Adventure series comes with a removable hardtop canopy from Getec along with the normal canvas top. It gets stylish alloy wheels, mated to Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tyres, in order to facilitate better off-road performance.
In South Africa, all Thar models have a standard mechanical differential lock in the rear and auto-locking front hubs. The SUV features a Borg Warner 4×4-system that allows for shift on the fly between 4×2 and 4×2 and high and low range.
As far as creature comforts go, the Thar Adventure Series gets the standard model’s front cup-holders, air-conditioning, power steering and a 12V power socket. The Thar Adventure series can be ordered in Rocky Beige, Red Rage or DSAT Silver in the South African market.
While there is no news on whether the Thar Adventure Series will be sold in India, Mahindra is currently developing the next-generation Thar and is expected to launch the model in India in 2020. The new Thar will be powered by Mahindra’s new 2.0-litre diesel engine, which will be compliant with BS-VI emissions regulations.
Apart from an increase in power, the next-gen Thar will offer better drivability and passenger comfort, thanks to an enhanced front suspension setup which will be enhanced for on-road use. Expect the next-generation model to come to Mahindra showrooms sometime in 2020.
